Hi! I'm Lauren Paulet and I am a senior at the School for Advanced Studies on Miami Dade College North Campus. My school is lucky enough to have resources that many other schools in my district do not have. I mainly reaching out to you today because I have created a program called "Midway to Success".
Midway to Success is a program geared toward underprivileged sophomores to brace them for the challenges they will find in the last stretch of their high school experience. The ultimate goal is to encourage at-risk students in inner-city neighborhoods to attend college and give them the resources necessary to do so. What makes us different? We aim to do so by having successful high school seniors and alumni present to 10th grade students on the importance of high school and college preparation. By having students, themselves inform other students, vital college information is effectively carried out that may otherwise be ignored when emanating from the mouth of an adult.
We inform underclassmen students about:
1. Choosing the right major that reflects their interests
2. The necessity of getting involved in their community
3. The importance of taking AP and Dual Enrollment courses
4. What the SAT and ACT are and how to prep for it
5. Understanding Financial Aid in the college process
6. Attending Summer Programs and Fly-ins
7. Seeking Scholarships early-on
Luckily, my school has resources that many other schools in my district do not have. Donations will provide resources to the inner-city students my program will be aiding. The money will be used to purchase things such as school supplies, test prep books, planners and laptops that these students would not otherwise have. Please donate what you can! Even a dollar can make a difference.
